DirEctor of Youth Ministry
Position Description
PURPOSE: The Director of Youth Ministry provides staff leadership for the middle and high school youth program of First Presbyterian Church.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, direct and implement weekly youth group meetings for middle and high school.
- Plan and conduct special youth events for middle and high school.
- In consultation with Youth Committee, help plan and implement church school program for middle and high school youth.
- Involve and train the youth, parents and church members as leaders for these groups, classes and activities.
- Encourage youth to attend youth events beyond the local church, i.e., camps, conferences, presbytery, Synod and General Assembly events.
- Promote mission trips for our youth.
- Spend time with youth, being part of their school and community activities.
- Know and utilize a wide variety of resources for youth ministry, including those produced by and for the PC(USA).
- Participate actively in the life of FPC.
- Other duties which from time to time may be assigned by the head of staff.
HOURS: Twenty hours a week. Days and times will vary. Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons and evenings are required.
STAFF ACCOUNTABILITY: The Director of Youth Ministry is accountable to the Pastor as head of staff through the Associate Pastor.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Works closely with the Associate Pastor. Provides staff resourcing for youth concerns to the Youth Committee. Comes at least once a month to staff meetings.
REVIEW: The Personnel Committee will annually meet to review the adequacy of compensation, the work of the staff, and the staff member’s views regarding his/her position and related responsibilities.
