ADULT EDUCATION

First Presbyterian Church places a high value on Christian Education for all ages, recognizing that learning and growing in our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is a life-long journey. We offer classes on both Sunday morning and mid-week, encouraging people to commit to study that fits their needs and schedules. We offer two ongoing classes plus occasional special events and speakers at 9:30 a.m. Sundays. Children’s classes and a nursery are available at the same time.
The Fellowship Class has a long history of serious inquiry into what it means to live a life of faith. Attended by long-time members and newer seekers, Fellowship emphasizes the relationship between faith and contemporary concerns with justice and society. They discuss a wide variety of topics, always seeking to ground their study in the Bible and Reformed Theology.
The Cornerstone Class is a new venture of First Presbyterian Church, originally begun as a gathering of young adults to discuss current events. It is evolving into a class of biblical study and theological inquiry in which adults in all stages of life engage each other in lively discussion. Studies are in shorter time segments, recognizing the need to accommodate the busy schedules of today’s families
Presbyterian Men
The Presbyterian Men’s Bible Study, made up of men of all ages and careers, has met on Thursday mornings at 7:00 a.m. for the past 10 years. It is a very laid back group of men that come together, not as Bible scholars, but as eager learners desiring to know more about the Bible. The group has studied a variety of topics over the past 10 years. Because of the abundance of discussion and conversation that goes along with each study, the study of I Samuel took nearly 6 months to complete. Significant to the discussion is how the Bible lessons can be applied to everyday coping and living in today’s busy society and work place.
A cup of coffee, a donut or two, coupled with good visiting on what’s happening in the world and individual’s lives is what keeps this group active and strong. The study lends itself to being at work by 8:00 if necessary.
Other interesting programs have come from Sterling College, Reno County Historical Society, local business people, as well as hearing about important work being done by groups within the church. Each meeting begins with a “mini” Bible study led by one of the members or pastors. Please consider this your invitation to join us and share in our good times together.
Presbyterian Women
Presbyterian Women is an organization of Christian women whose purpose is:
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study, to support the mission of the church worldwide, to work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom.
Presbyterian Women’s groups have been in existence since the early 1800s. Two centuries after the first Presbyterian Women gathered to pray and donate their money to the church, we exist today because of our adaptability, determination, proactive, charitable, generous dedication to God and the church.
The women of First Presbyterian Church are a part of this much larger organization. We have four day time circles and one evening circle that meet at least once a month. Studying together is a major part of the monthly meetings. Circles undertake projects that might be as little as buying new tablecloths for the church or as large as participating in the church-wide gathering of women held in Louisville, Kentucky.
Every woman of the church is invited and encouraged to become a party of a circle.
